How to Manage Program-Level Overrides for Parent Service Fees
This video walks you through the key points — it’s the best way to understand everything in just a couple of minutes.
Managing Parent Service Fees on TUIO
TUIO gives you full control over how service fees for credit card payments are handled. You have three flexible options:
-
Pass on the fees to families – Parents cover the service fees for credit card payments.
-
Absorb the fees – Your organization pays the fees, and parents are not charged.
-
Split the fees – Share the cost between your organization and the parents.
This flexibility allows you to tailor your fee approach based on your needs. For example, you may decide to pass on the service fees for tuition programs but absorb them for one-time incidental charges.
Setting the Fee Option: Parent Service Fee Checkbox
You control this setting at the program level via the Don't charge parents service fee for this program checkbox in the program Settings tab:
-
✅ Checked: Your organization absorbs the processing fees (parents are not charged).
-
⬜ Unchecked: Parents are charged the service fee according to your transaction fee configuration, which appears as a line item on their invoice.
Note: This setting only applies to new enrollments. It does not affect families who have already confirmed their payment plan and method, to prevent unexpected changes.
Set a Default for New Programs
To save time, you can set a global default for the Parent Service Fee checkbox when creating new programs.
Navigate to:
Organization Settings > Transaction fees
From there, you can choose whether the Parent Service Fee box should be checked or unchecked by default for all newly created programs. This default can still be adjusted on a per-program basis.
This setup helps ensure you're always in control of how service fees are applied—and that your families are charged fairly and consistently.
